About this deal

I would pick a Fethead over any other, for me it's a no brainer, if you want to see it in action find me on YouTube "The Restless Natives" you will see how the Fethead just blends in.

As mentioned earlier, dynamic microphones like the Shure SM57 tend to require more of a boost than condenser mics. Germanium transistors were widely used in earliest transistor designs by Neve, EMI, Telefunken, and Fairchild, and have developed a reputation for a decidedly vintage mojo that remains sought after today.

It improves performance in long cable runs and can act as a ‘surge protector’ for ribbon microphones, However, I recommend TA’s dedicated Phantom Blocker for that. If you have a low output ribbon or dynamic mic and an eye for simplistic, no-frills gear, FetHead should meet your needs and more. The load switching option adds to this flexibility and allows you to change the input impedance to see how your mic reacts to each one.

sE quote a self-noise figure of 9μV, according to the Japanese JIS-A standard, but Hugh was unable to replicate that measurement with the AP system.

The problem is that I'm getting some digital noise in my Focusrite Scarlett whenever I turn gain passed 1 o'clock. If you wanted to spend a bit more and get something new, I’d recommend the Golden Age Project Pre-73 MKIII Microphone Preamp.
